Don’t Miss Annie at SOMS

Posted March 21st, 2011 by PTA

For 140 South Orange Middle School students “tomorrow” will bring
another rehearsal for their upcoming production of Annie. The musical
boasts the largest cast of any SOMS musical and the actors have been
working hard for months on what promises to be an extremely
entertaining production. There are many former Clinton students in the
cast.

Based on the “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip, Annie is set in
Depression Era New York City at a time when the economy was grim. With
its hopeful message and strong belief that tomorrow will be a better
day, Annie became one of the biggest Broadway musical hits of the
1970s.

South Orange Middle School’s Annie will be performed on Friday, April
1st at 7 pm, Saturday, April 2nd at 7 pm, and Sunday April 3rd at 2
pm. Tickets ($15/$10 for reserved seats and $10/$7 for general
admission) are available through South Orange Middle School (contact
Kathy Hester at 973-378-2733 ext. 2000 or khester1@somsd.k12.nj.us), a
few local shops including Kitchen a la Mode and Stony’s in South
Orange, and also at the door if the shows are not sold out.

Memorial Day parade float
For the second year, we are building a float for the Memorial Day Parade.
The theme is “Clinton Elementary School Celebrates Diversity,” and it’s going to be wonderful!

There are several ways to help.
First, we need YELLOW PLASTIC BAGS.

If you subscribe to the Star Ledger, or shop at ShopRite, please save and donate your yellow bags.
You can drop them off inside the school entrance or at 3R Living on Maplewood Avenue.

Second, please help build the float! We will be working at the following times:

Saturday, May 22, 1:00 – 4:00 PM
Saturday, May 29, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday, May 30, 10:00 AM -?

There will be tasks for both children and adults.
Come for an hour or come for a day.
All are welcome!

Third, please plan to march in the parade, Monday, May 31.
We will assemble at the Columbia High School Student Parking Lot at 8:15 AM.

Every child must be accompanied by an adult.
One adult can take responsibility for more than one child, but children may NOT be dropped off alone at the point of assembly.
Every child is encouraged to march a Clinton School shirt, or a red shirt.

Ideally you will continue to foster their interest in theatre by exposing them to the impressive dancing, singing, and acting that will occur next weekend during South Orange Middle School’s production of Cinderella.
