Dangerous parking situation

Posted December 1st, 2009 by PTA

Neighbors who live near Clinton School have filed several complaints with the Maplewood Police Department regarding unsafe traffic conditions around the school at morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

The police visited the school during those times yesterday and concurred that there are several illegally double parked cars on the streets surrounding the school as well as cars parked facing in the wrong direction. They informed school administration as well as PTA representatives that they will be monitoring the conditions carefully and have told us that they will be issuing tickets for these violations and will be doing regular checks around drop off and pick up times.

These traffic conditions are extremely unsafe for children walking to and from school (as well as those being dropped off by double-parked cars).

If you drive your child to school, PLEASE park your car in a legal space and walk your child to his/her door. The 5-minute drop off zones are not for long-term parking and pulling up next to already parked cars (double-parking) is illegal and hazardous to children.

Also, under no circumstances should parents be driving into the Clinton School driveway. Children walk through that area to get to school and parent vehicles are prohibited.

Please help us make our school as safe as possible for our students. Thank You.

Not to worry! Mr. Stewart is vacationing in the sunny Caribbean for a couple of weeks. He’ll be back directing traffic and us soon.

Fire Safety Week

Posted October 6th, 2009 by PTA

As you may have already heard, it’s fire prevention week Oct 4-10 focusing on burn awareness and prevention, as well as keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires.

The school has two practice fire drills each month. The kids had a visit from the fire department yesterday, and will continue to discuss safety and prevention at home.

The children in grades 3-5 are also asked to view several fire safety programs at home with their parents. Information will be sent home this week.
