URGENT/Parent Volunteers Needed for 3/31 and 4/1 for Honeybees Assembly

Posted March 30th, 2011 by PTA

Parent Volunteers Needed for Dancin’ With the Honeybees

THIS AMAZING ASSEMBLY REQUIRES MANY PARENT VOLUNTEERS AND WE STILL DON’T HAVE ENOUGH. PLEASE SEE THE SCHEDULE BELOW AND LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP OUT DURING ONE OF THE SLOTS BY EMAILING JACKIE LAHEY AT jaclahey@aol.com

The Clinton PTA is excited to present Cliff Sunflower’s assembly and workshop program, Dancin’ with the Honeybees, on Thursday, March 31,
and Friday, April 1. Using honeybees as his focus, Cliff reaches
all levels of students and adults with concepts, facts, and ideas about the ecology of the natural world. Dancin’ with the Honeybees uses storytelling, poetry, prose, puppetry, music, dance, and participatory theatre. The follow-up “Bee Touch Me Museum” lab program reinforces the science concepts presented in the main assembly. Every participant makes a beeswax candle to take home.

In order to make the follow-up lab program work smoothly, we need at least six parents from each grade to volunteer to help at the museum stations, which will be set up in the gym. We ask that you attend the morning parent orientation, and then help during your child’s workshop. (If you are coming only to the afternoon workshop, Cliff can do a 10-minute orientation for you beforehand.)

The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, March 31

8:15 – 9:15 Assembly, Grades K-2

9:15 – 9:45 Parent Orientation

9:45 – 10:30 2nd Grade Workshop

10:35 – 11:20 1st Grade Workshop

12:45 – 1:30 Kindergarten Workshop

Friday, April 1

8:15 – 9:15 Assembly, Grades 3-5

9:15 – 9:45 Parent Orientation

9:45 – 10:30 5th Grade Workshop

10:35 – 11:20 4th Grade Workshop

12:45 – 1:30 3rd Grade Workshop

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Jackie Lahey at jaclahey@aol.com, or 973-313-9757. Please give your name, your workshop time, your email address, and your phone number.

Thank you very much!

Clinton Poetry Jam/ Attention 4th Grade Families

Posted February 8th, 2011 by PTA

We cordially invite

You to

Clinton School’s

4th Grade Poetry Jam

Friday, February 18th, at 1:15 pm

Clinton School Auditorium.

The performance is the culminating event representing the amazing work your children have done with our our artist-in-residence this year, poet Lamont Dixon.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Artists-in-Education Consortium, which includes the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Arts Horizons, and Young Audiences New Jersey, Clinton fourth graders have the wonderful opportunity to explore poetry with Mr. Dixon, aka Napalm Da Bomb, a Philadelphian who has been a prominent presence on the jazz- poetry scene for many years. His poetry has been published in numerous magazines including Essence and African Voices, and he recently published a book of poetry called Come Ride My Poems.

The residency has also funded a guest artist, percussionist Josh Robinson, who has taught students how to use “found objects” for percussive effect.

The final performance will feature the students, Mr. Dixon, and Mr. Dixon’s band Jazzpoetics.

Please join us for what promises to be a very special afternoon. Parents are asked to sit in the balcony.

2. WINTER CRAFT FAIR
Don’t miss our Winter Craft Fair (flyers went home in backpacks this week for this December 4th event) Also, we need some recycled materials to use at this great annual event. We are collecting the following items to re-use for some of our craft projects:

Bottle caps (metal, from root beer bottles, beer bottles, etc.) Plastic bottles with interesting bottoms (to use as a fabric stamp) Unused holiday or everyday cards (the kind you get in the mail or as a gift but you might never use) Spare game pieces, dice, etc (this will be used for a mosaic project)

If you have any of these items please send them in to school with your child in a bag/container marked “Craft Fair”

3. DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE CLINTON PTA’S OTHER MOTHERS PROGRAM

Please consider donating your gently used children’s clothes to the Clinton School account at Other Mothers Consignment Shop. This account allows us to assist families in need in our school community.

Here’s how it works:

We have been working with Other Mothers (a consignment store in South
Orange) to maintain an ongoing account that can be used by members of the Clinton School community who are in need of clothing and other necessary items for their families. This account is especially helpful to ensure that families have appropriate winter gear but it also allows us to assist families in need on an ongoing basis. We have provided close to $1200 in gift certificates to families in the past two years.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS ACCOUNT TO HELP OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CLINTON COMMUNITY, please bring your gently used, quality children’s clothing (sizes preemie through child’s 16), maternity clothes, baby items, and baby furniture, into Other Mothers (Monday-Saturday, 10am-3pm) and they will put your percentage of the total resale value into a store credit account for Clinton. This account will then be used by members of our school community who are in need.

Please note that you should check their website
for specific details about their trade-in hours and what they will and will not accept.

Other Mothers is located at 461 Irvington Avenue in South Orange. They are open Mon.-Sat. from 10 to 7:00 pm. Their phone number is 973-762-4343. Trade-in hours are Monday- Saturday from 10am-3pm. Other Mothers only takes items that are clean and in good condition.

4. PARENTING CENTER HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

Every year The Parenting Center collects toys to distribute to children in need throughout our school district. Toys can be dropped off in the front hallway of Clinton School. Click here to see the flyer with more details:
