Make Your Tricky Tray Reservation Now!

Posted January 8th, 2012 by PTA

Paper forms will go home in backpacks early this week but you don’t have to wait to make your Tricky Tray reservation. Click here for the flyer and form.

As always, we will reserve a table for you if you send reservations and payment for ten people. Otherwise there will be plenty of tables with open seating. We do need you to reserve in advance, however, so we know how many tables and chairs we’ll need etc.

This is our 9th Annual Tricky Tray and Auction and it will be held on Saturday, February 11th from 6 pm to 10:30 pm at St. Joseph’s Church in Maplewood.

It is our biggest fundraiser of the year, by far, and it’s also great fun. Please join us.

If you have questions about reservations, please contact Karen Betheil at kbetheil@verizon.net

All details on flyer.

We Need Prizes! 9th Annual Tricky Tray & Auction

Posted December 13th, 2011 by PTA

As you know our 9th Annual Tricky Tray and Auction will be held on Saturday evening, February 11th at the hall in St. Joseph’s Church in Maplewood. Please mark your calendar and save the date. You won’t want to miss this incredibly fun event. Reservation forms will be sent out in early January.

Last year we raised almost $26,000 at our Tricky Tray/Auction and this year, of course, we want to do even better! The money raised at this event each year has been responsible for major purchases including playground equipment, rock climbing wall in our gymnasium and a complete audio/visual renovation of our auditorium.

WE ARE NOW COLLECTING PRIZES AND WE NEED YOUR HELP.

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO DONATE?

We also rely heavily on you to help us collect prizes. Here are some ways you can help:

START WITH YOUR EMPLOYER
In recent years Clinton parents have donated items such a Tiffany bracelet, Cirque de Soleil tickets, books, electronics, clothes and accessories. Some companies are willing to donate merchandise and others are prepared to offer a sizable discount. If this is the case, please let us know. In the past we have used a Clinton parent’s employee discount at Macy’s to purchase a slew of great prizes. Prizes in the electronics category are always a big hit, so if you have any connections in that area, please let us know. We have a letter than can be used to solicit donations. Let us know if you’d like a copy.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT OR SKILL?
Turn it into a prize! Some ideas: If you’re an accomplished tennis player, offer a one-hour private lesson. If you can bake, a decorated birthday cake would be a fabulous prize, if you are a fabulous cook, you can prepare and deliver a meal for four.

DO YOU LIKE TO ENTERTAIN?
How about throwing a theme party? You pick the date, time, and theme, and we’ll auction off the invitations. Have you always wanted to host a Mystery Dinner? Mystery guests will make it all the more fun! Do you make a mean margarita? How about putting together a Cinco de Mayo party? The possibilities are endless for this prize—and oh so much fun!

THERE’S NO SHAME IN REGIFTING
Did your child receive two of the same Wii games for his birthday? Instead of letting one collect dust, donate it to the Tricky Tray. Did someone give you a gift card you’ll never use? Someone can use it.

WHO DO YOU KNOW?
An autographed script or backstage tour is always a popular prize. A few years ago Clinton parents starring in Broadway productions of Hair, Wicked, and The Little Mermaid offered backstage tours. A Sopranos script signed by all the featured actors brought in big bucks another year.

WEEKEND GETAWAYS
Do you have a time-share or vacation home that you can spare for a weekend? Is there a hotel you stay at frequently that might offer a sizable discount? Please let us know!

The possibilities are endless and no prize is too big or too small. Contact Cecelia Cancellaro by email or phone 973-763-1730 if you have a prize to donate or if you are willing to be a part of our Tricky Tray committee.

Need Help With Winter Craft Fair

Posted November 9th, 2011 by PTA

The Clinton PTA needs volunteers to help organize and run the Winter Craft Fair which takes place at Clinton School on Saturday, December 3rd from 11 — 2 in our school cafeteria. It is a really fun event and we hope some of you will be able to help us.

We need a small group of parents to meet to plan out some fun family-friendly craft activities and then to prepare the materials for the craft fair. On the day of the fair, we need some extra hands to show children how to make the crafts and help with supplies and organization.

Please email Leah Gomberg at ldgomberg@verizon.net if you can help. Our craft fair is a great way to spend some quality time with your children and make some neat gifts for the holidays while supporting the Clinton PTA and its activities.

Two PTA Events on November 17th

Posted November 9th, 2011 by PTA

November 17 is a great day to support the Clinton PTA and also learn some good tips about staying healthy and fit as we head into the holiday season!

PERCH HOME NIGHT
On Thursday night, November 17, Perch Home, on Highland Place in Maplewood Village, will be open from 5:30 until 9 pm, with special late hours for our annual Perch home shopping night. This is a great way to support a local (and Clinton family-owned!) business while getting a jump on holiday shopping. A percentage of each purchase is donated directly to the Clinton School PTA. If you can’t make it at night, owner Michelle Bessey will count any purchase made that day, so feel free to stop in at any time during the day and tell her your purchase is for Clinton. (She opens at 10 am.)

GENERAL PTA MEETING/FOCUS ON CATCH
As you may have heard, Clinton Elementary is now a CATCH school (CATCH = Coordinated Approach to Children’s Health). With our teachers, administrators and district Phys Ed, Health, and Nursing Supervisor Judy LoBianco leading the way, we will be working hard in the coming months to help all our students and families learn more about “slow”, “go”, and “whoa!” foods and life-long health, nutrition, and fitness. You can learn more about the nation-wide CATCH program at catchinfo.gov.

Please try to join us on Thursday, November 17 at our general PTA meeting for an overview of the CATCH program as well as the chance to play some CATCH-inspired games with Mr. Lehman and Ms. Freede as well as sample some tasty “go” foods cooked up by our special celebrity chef. (Her name is a secret, but you might recognize her from the Principal’s office.) This is a night for families, so bring your children and be sure to wear sneakers! We will meet at 7:15 in the Clinton School auditorium for an introduction to the program and then divide into smaller groups for the fitness and cooking
demonstrations.

We know it might be too late for the little ones, but we hope some of you can join us. We will be finished by 8:30 pm.

Thank you for making Clinton School’s PTA and programs part of your schedule next week!
