school show
60s @ Clinton
If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes an army to put on this show. As Harvey Milk said, “I am here to recruit you!”
Show blog: http://clinton60.wordpress.com/
This year’s Clinton Revue will walk us through the decade of the 60s…50 years ago. Anything you can think of that occurred between January 1, 1960 – December 31, 1969 is open for interpretation (age-appropriately, of course).
We will utilize the same format as last year: the structure that everything will hang on is the journey through he 60’s, individual numbers, singing, dancing and comedy, will be hung together by a “news broadcast” which will take place on either of the little platforms to the left and right of the stage, as we transition from number to number. This broadcast will be important news events, recreations of interviews from the sixties (acting).
We were thinking that comedy could use the joke wall idea from “Laugh-in.” We can make a wall 4′ x 16′ of cardboard, painted by kids, all 60’s style, create doors and windows through which kids can shout out jokes and funny stories, if you have a better concept, please feel free to do so.
Below we have outlined topics to get us started. If any of these inspire you, it’s yours. If you have your own inspiration and can tie it into the theme, go for it. We want to meet you where ever you are! Want a little assistance and a place to jump off from? We got it! Have enthusiasm, but not creative, we can help you, too!
If previous experience teaches us anything, it’s that we will have many more kids wanting to participate this year after such a successful show last year. So we’d like to have 1 director and 2 assistant directors for each number. We’ll need parent help along the way, too. We’re incorporating mandatory parent hours into the contract this year. And we’ll recruit for stage/set design help early next year.
Those who joined us last year had a good experience. If you liked it from the audience, you will love it from backstage. Join us, won’t you? We will have a 10-week rehearsal schedule; rehearsals once a week for the first 8 weeks. Rehearsals begin after the kids get back to school from the winter break in January. Rehearsal times are after school; weekday evenings; and Saturday mornings over at DeHart Recreation Center.
Everything we are trying to do here is about creating community and being inclusive, and it can’t happen without you.
Thanks,
Suzanne R. (haysooz@aol.com)
