Recycling Bottle Caps with Aveda

Posted September 16th, 2009 by PTA

Did you know that most plastic bottle caps do not get recycled? Well, now Clinton School can help recycle many types of plastic bottle caps through Aveda’s cap recycling program. Aveda partners with schools to collect bottle caps, and then they send the caps to their recycler and use the recycled caps to make the bottles and caps for their products.

The program accepts rigid plastic bottle caps with threads for twisting on and off. The program does not accept non-rigid lids, including lids with threads that are bendable. IF YOU CAN BEND OR BREAK IT, IT CANNOT BE RECYCLED.

YES: caps for shampoo bottles, water, soda, milk, and other beverage bottles, flip-tops for ketchup and mayonnaise, lids for peanut butter, and laundry detergent.

NO: lids for prescription bottles, lids for yogurt cups, margarine tubs, some milk containers.

Containers for collecting these caps are in the front entranceway and in the cafeteria. Thanks to parent Nancy Friedman for bringing this program to Clinton and facilitating.

Thanks for keeping Clinton so green!

Worn-jeans drive a success!

Posted June 24th, 2009 by PTA

We just wanted to let you know that our denim drive was a huge success. 200 pieces of denim were collected (100 more than we’d hoped)!

The denim will be recycled into environmentally friendly cotton insulation and donated to Habit for Humanity affiliates to build houses in places that have been damaged by hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. We’ve collected enough denim to insulate half of a house.

We have also brought National Geographic Kids one step closer to breaking the record they were shooting for:

Thanks to Elizabeth King and Sophie for sponsoring this wonderful green initiative, to all of you for donating the denim, and to our soon-to-be-middle-schoolers Sophie, Aly, Lexie, Patty, and Allie for decorating the box and helping transport the denim to the car.

Clinton School wants to help National Geographic Kids set a Guinness
World Record for the world’s largest collection of clothes to recycle!

Bring us all your old jeans that are worn out or don’t fit and that
are clogging up your (and your kids’) closets. The denim will be
recycled into environmentally friendly cotton insulation and donated
to Habit for Humanity affiliates to build houses in places that have
