Magazine Subscriptions Benefit Clinton School

Posted July 7th, 2010 by PTA

It’s a great time of the year to catch up on magazine reading, or to order some new subscriptions and renew old ones. And magazine subscriptions make great gifts!

If you’re in the market for any of this, you can do it through Reader’s Digest Magazine Fundraising, and you can support Clinton School in the process.

You can also invite your friends and family to visit Clinton’s online fundraising page to choose from over 650 magazine subscriptions at up to 85% savings. Clinton will get 40% of each purchase.

Order your new subscriptions, or renew existing ones, by clicking here

Thanks, as always, for supporting Clinton School!

Clinton went loco!

Posted May 24th, 2010 by PTA

Locomania was a blast! The kids (and their teachers) walked, skipped, and galloped the Underhill Field track and also spent some time dancing in the middle of the field!

We hope your children like the water bottles that were given to all children (each grade got a different color that corresponded with the rainbow color they wore that day for our Annual Rainbow Photo). The Rainbow Photo promises to be the best ever and we will have it available for sale as a poster soon.

If your children found sponsors to make pledges for their efforts in Locomania, please begin collecting the payments. The pledge form and payments should be sent to school by June 1st in the envelope that was attached to the pledge form, or in a plain envelope marked Clinton PTA/ Locomania. 100% of money raised will benefit Clinton School, so we greatly appreciate your support.

Many thanks to our amazing physical education teachers, Mr. Lehman and Ms. Freede, for making the day so fun and for always making our children feel that fitness is fun. We are really lucky to have them.

Thanks to DJ/Dad Jeremy Moss for his musical expertise and constant willingness to help. We are lucky to have him too. And thanks to Leah Gomberg and Elizabeth Aaron for all of their organizing of the event and water bottle distribution. You guys rock! Lastly, thanks so much to all the parents who helped keep things organized that day or came to cheer on our wonderful children!

Help Restore the Columbia High School Auditorium

To mark its 20th anniversary, SOMEF (the South Orange Maplewood Education Foundation) has been busy planning a major event to salute the performing arts at Columbia High School. Invitations will be sent out shortly for this incredible evening gala called “A Night on the Towns.”

The multi-faceted program marks the start of a long term initiative to raise significant funds for the restoration of the Columbia High School auditorium, and its main feature is a star-studded musical review, “Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance, Gotta Give,” directed by local residents Bethany Pettigrew and Tricia Benn. The performance will take place at Columbia High School on Sunday, May 23rd at 7:30 pm. Already scheduled to perform are Tony winners Christine Ebersole, Emmy winner, Andre Braugher, film and television actress Suzzane Douglass, Lydia Johnson Dance, a music faculty Trumpet Trio, and CHS alumna, Heidi Burgermaster with an Alumni Jazz Band. The cast will be joined by other local performers as well as Columbia High School’s own impressive talent from the past, present, and future including Suzanne Hevner (Jefferson parent), Nikki Reininga (Marshall, SOMS, and CHS parent), Liz Mills Smith (Marshall parent), Tricia Benn (Marshall and Jefferson parent), Bethany Pettigrew (Marshall, Jefferson, and SOMS parent), and Janet Bustrin (CHS faculty).

Tickets for the show, which include a delicious post-show dessert reception, sponsored by the CHS Music Parents’ Association, are $75 (preferred seats), $50 (standard seats), and $25 (students with valid ID).

An additional option for event-goers is an extravagant pre-show cocktail party at the home of Patricia Bell in South Orange’s Montrose Historic Park. Catered by David Ellis Events, the party will afford an opportunity to enjoy Ms. Bell’s extensive art collection. Admission to the cocktail party is included in several show and pre-party package choices.

As our local school budget faces bigger challenges than ever before, we hope you will be able to lend your support to this worthy cause.
