Elementors Volunteer Needed for September

Posted Thursday, June 18, 2009 by PTA.

Clinton School has benefited tremendously from the Parenting Center’s wonderful Elementors Program. This program brings Columbia High School students to Clinton (once a week for 3 4-week sessions throughout the
year) to mentor our 5th graders. Each session has a different theme and this year we had soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, and games. The high school students are amazing with our students and our students love every minute of their Elementors time.

In order to participate in this program we need one parent volunteer (or two can share the job) to accompany the Elementors to Clinton School once a week (for those 3 4-week sessions). Many, many thanks to Emni Audet who did a wonderful job this year with our Elementors.

Our volunteer meets the students at the high school, rides the school bus with them to Clinton, gives them pizza, loosely facilitates the time the Elementors spend with our students (i.e. being sure equipment is ready and available, that space is free, etc.), and then rides the bus back to the high school. This all happens during 5th grade recess time and we usually have our Elementors sessions on Mondays.

We can only continue this program with the help of volunteers and it is extremely beneficial to our 5th graders. Volunteers always find this experience very rewarding and it’s a perfect chance to get a glimpse of the great, great students our high school produces.

Can you help? Would you like to hear more about it? Please contact Cecelia at ccancellaro at verizo dot net .

Also, many thanks to Olivera Bevanda for volunteering her time this year to help with our 2nd Grade Reading Buddies Program (this program is also brought to us from the Parenting Center and it brings 8th graders to Clinton to read with 2nd graders).
