Bike Rack Installed!

On Thursday, May 28th, Clinton School held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for their brand new 5th grade bike rack. It was a very special moment for the school since the bike rack purchase was the direct result of the Clinton School Student Government’s efforts, over the course of the last two school years, to change the district policy on riding bikes to school. Previously, 5th graders were not legally allowed to ride and park their bikes at elementary school buildings. Thanks to the rigorous efforts of Hannah Gibbons (Clinton’s 2008-09 Student Government President) and Madison Byrne (this year’s President), petitions were signed, letters were read to the Board of Education, and supporters were rallied.

The district policy was officially changed in May and now Clinton 5th graders will benefit from the physical activity of riding a bike to and from school and our earth will benefit from several less car drop-offs each day.

Although rain prevented the ceremony from being held outside, Hannah Gibbons, SOMS student and former Clinton School Student Government President and Clinton principal, Patricia O'Neill cut a red ribbon to celebrate Clinton's new 5th grade bike rack.
